What is Therapy?

Oftentimes therapy gets a bad rap. It seems people tend to have biases about the reasons you should go to therapy. Some of those reasons include being crazy, or having scary trauma, or thinking something must be wrong with you and going to therapy can fix you. These ideas have come from television, social media or even word of mouth from someone who could have had a poor experience with therapy in the past. For the longest time, the media has not portrayed mental health in a good light; therefore, we have these biases around therapy and what it looks like. Therapy is a different experience for everyone.

Therapy is a place where people come to process their thoughts and feelings, challenge their beliefs, and dive into their experiences that have molded them into who they are today and so much more. As a therapist, it is my job to create and provide a safe environment for my clients to feel welcome to bring their thoughts, feelings, and experiences a new perspective. Therapy helps us to learn new tools and skills to cope with these different facets of life. Therapy can get real quickly, and that can be scary to a lot of people. With that being said, it is important to find a therapist you feel safe sharing these experiences with.

Therapy provides a space to work on your mental health, and allows people to become more aware of their emotions, how they treat others, and how their experiences have impacted them. There are several different types of therapy that can provide different perspectives to different situations. Therapy is for everyone.

If you, or someone you know is looking for a therapist do not hesitate to reach out.
